Anthropic's Mythos Has More Capabilities Than the U.S. Government. Is That Right?

Anthropic previewed Mythos, a model it says found cracks in foundational open source software that had been tested millions of times. Rather than releasing it publicly, the company hand-picked 40 companies — including Cisco, Microsoft, Apple, and JPMorgan — under a program called Project GlassWing, and distributed roughly $100 million in credits to test whether their systems would survive deployment. Jessi Brooks argues this is the AGI dictator moment the AI labs said they were building to prevent: a private company performing a national security function with no oversight mechanism, no regulation, and no democratic accountability. The argument isn’t that Anthropic is wrong — it’s that ‘trust us’ is not a policy.
