Ultima

Ultima is the infrastructure token of the Ultima ecosystem, which is built around its own smart contract blockchain. The project positions itself in the payments and decentralized finance space, with a Layer 1 network intended to support applications and transfers at low cost.

How Ultima works

The Ultima blockchain uses delegated proof of stake, a consensus model where token holders vote for a limited set of validators who produce blocks on the network's behalf. According to the project, the network produces a new block every three seconds and can handle up to roughly 2,000 transactions per second. Delegated proof of stake generally trades some decentralization for throughput, since block production is concentrated among a fixed number of elected validators rather than being open to all participants.

ULTIMA has an unusually small supply for a crypto asset. The maximum and total supply are both 100,000 tokens, with roughly 84,700 in circulation. A small unit supply is a design choice rather than a measure of value, since any total supply can be divided into smaller fractional units.
