OriginTrail

OriginTrail is a project building what it calls a Decentralized Knowledge Graph, infrastructure for making information about products, assets, and organisations verifiable and discoverable. TRAC is its token, and the project has been active since 2018 with a background in supply chain data before broadening toward artificial intelligence applications.

How OriginTrail works

A knowledge graph structures information as entities and the relationships between them, which is how search engines and AI systems organise facts. OriginTrail's network stores such structured data in a decentralized way, with cryptographic proofs of origin so that a consumer of the data can verify who published it and that it has not been altered. Node operators stake TRAC to participate in hosting and serving this data, and publishers pay in TRAC to have their assets recorded.

The project operates a multi-chain architecture spanning several networks, with its own dedicated chain built in the Polkadot ecosystem alongside deployments connected to Ethereum, Base, and others. TRAC has a maximum supply of 500 million tokens, all issued, with roughly 447 million in circulation.

Role in the ecosystem

OriginTrail's stated focus has shifted toward the problem of AI systems generating unverifiable claims. Its argument is that a verifiable knowledge layer lets AI retrieve information whose origin can be checked, rather than relying on unattributed training data. The project has worked with enterprises and standards organisations on supply chain traceability, which gives it a longer record of real-world deployment than many projects in the AI category. Its long operating history and enterprise pilots give it a track record that can be examined directly, which is unusual among projects in the AI category.
