Midnight

Midnight is a privacy-focused blockchain that combines public verifiability with confidential data handling. Rather than making all transactions either fully transparent or fully hidden, it is designed around selective disclosure: an application can prove that a condition is met without revealing the underlying data.

The network originated within the Cardano ecosystem, developed by Input Output, and is positioned as a data protection sidechain rather than a general-purpose privacy coin. That framing matters, because the target use case is regulated applications that need to keep business data confidential while still being able to demonstrate compliance.

Zero-knowledge proofs

The underlying technology is zero-knowledge proofs, which allow one party to prove a statement is true without revealing the information that makes it true. A user could prove they are over a certain age, that a balance exceeds a threshold, or that a transaction meets a rule, without exposing the actual date, balance, or details.

Developers build applications using these proofs so that sensitive data stays off the public ledger while the results remain verifiable by anyone. This is a different approach from mixing-based privacy, which obscures transaction graphs but does not offer selective proof of properties.

Supply

NIGHT has a maximum supply of 24 billion tokens, all issued as total supply, with roughly 16.6 billion currently circulating. The token was distributed in part through a broad allocation to holders of tokens across several ecosystems.

Midnight is available across Cardano and BNB Chain contexts and appeared in Binance's Alpha Spotlight program. As a recent launch, its practical adoption by applications that actually need confidential computation is the measure to watch.
